Introducing Frank
April 8, 2026
What is Frank?
Frank is a field assistant built directly into BuildWitt Improve. He’s there when you need a quick answer on the job, in the moment, without waiting on a call back or digging through a manual.
Frank isn’t a chatbot or a gimmick. He’s a practical tool designed to help frontline crews get answers to the questions that come up every day in the field.
Why the name "Frank"?
Frank gives it to you straight. He’s not going to oversell what he knows, and he’s not going to leave you guessing. If he has a good answer, he’ll give it. If the answer is beyond what he knows, he’ll tell you that too.
We call Frank a field assistant because he’s a knowledgeable resource available in your pocket, any time you need him.
How Frank Works
Frank is trained on a deep library of trusted construction content, including:
• BuildWitt Improve's micro-training library of nearly 2,000 trainings built specifically for civil construction and self-perform trade contractors
• BuildWitt stories and Dirt Talk podcast episodes — real-world perspectives from experienced operators
• Industry documents, standards, and reference materials relevant to heavy civil and trade work
When someone on the front lines has a question about a technique, a process, a safety concern, or a piece of equipment Frank gives them a real answer, fast. No hunting. No waiting.
What Frank Can Answer
- Safety & Crew Leadership: "I've got a young crew that keeps cutting corners on safety. How do I get them to take it seriously without being a jerk about it?"
- Equipment Operation: "What's the pre-trip inspection checklist I should be doing on a Cat D6 every morning, and why does it actually matter?"
- Project Management: "We're behind schedule on a grade work project. How do I figure out where we're losing time and get back on track?"
- Technical Specs: "What's the proper compaction percentage for a subgrade on a heavy highway project, and how do I verify it's right?"
- Career Development: "I'm thinking about moving into a foreman role. What skills do I need to develop, and how do I know if I'm ready?"
- Problem-Solving: "We've got a haul road that's turning into a mud pit every time it rains. What's causing it and how do I fix it?"
- Learning from Mistakes: "I made a call on the job that cost us time and money. How do I learn from it without beating myself up and move forward?"
What Languages can Frank speak?
Frank can understand multiple languages including Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, and plenty of others.
The honest answer? If you speak it, try asking Frank in it. He'll do his best to respond in a way that makes sense.
What Frank Can't Do
Frank is not a replacement for your foreman, your superintendent, or your safety officer. Here’s what he doesn’t know:
⚠️ Frank is not trained on company-specific information.
He doesn’t have access to your company’s processes, internal policies, or standard operating procedures.
⚠️ Frank doesn’t know your job.
He has no access to project plans, job-specific specs, site conditions, or contract documents.
⚠️ Frank is a starting point, not a final answer.
For anything where getting it wrong matters — safety, engineering, compliance — verify with a qualified person on your team.
The Right Way to Think About Frank
Think of Frank like a knowledgeable coworker who’s read everything BuildWitt has ever put out and spent years in the industry. He knows a lot. He’ll give you a straight answer. But he doesn’t know your specific boss, your specific site, or your specific contract.
He’s there to help you think, not to replace the judgment of the people who actually know your job.
Why We Built Frank
The reality on most job sites is that experienced people are busy, answers aren’t always easy to come by, and new workers often don’t want to ask a question for fear of sounding stupid. That gap costs time, creates risk, and slows people down.
Frank doesn’t solve every problem. But he closes a gap that’s been hard to close any other way: giving frontline workers access to reliable knowledge, right when they need it.
